A loyal reader of this site, Campbell Holinger, was at the scene of a house explosion in Hickory Hills this evening and has shared several photos. According to Campbell, the incident took place at 9122 Barberry, within the Roberts Park Fire Protection District. Initially, a full structure fire alarm was called, followed by a TRT (Technical Rescue Team) Box Alarm and an EMS Box Alarm. Around 6:20 PM, most of the TRT units and the remaining EMS crews were pulled off the scene.
Both homeowners were taken to the hospital in unknown condition. The Chicago Tribune has a detailed article with a video clip available [here](#).
Campbell shared some eyewitness accounts from the scene. One witness described the destruction: “The whole front of the house was all blown out, the side of the house was blown off. The roof looks like it went up three or four feet and came down.†Another neighbor, Polensky, mentioned that a retired couple had lived in the raised ranch home for years. He saw them walking out of the house and they appeared uninjured. Authorities confirmed no one was injured.
Firefighters arrived to find large plumes of smoke coming from the home, suggesting something was still smoldering inside. Nearly a dozen fire crews were on-site, checking neighboring homes for gas leaks as a precaution.
Campbell captured several powerful images of the damage. The first photo shows the split-level house, which appears to have lost a level. Another image highlights the 'B' side of the house, where a wall has been completely blown out. A third shot focuses on the 'B/C' corner, showing the extent of the destruction. Firefighters from Roberts Park Truck 31 were seen in the 'A' sector, while North Palos Truck 804 provided mutual aid.
