**Excerpts from wfmz.com:** West Penn Township, Pennsylvania — Two volunteer firefighters lost their lives after responding to a fire that engulfed a home in West Penn Township, Schuylkill County, on Wednesday afternoon, according to the county coroner. Marvin Gruber, 59, and Zachary Paris, 36, were called to a house fire on the 1100 block of Clamtown Road, near Tamaqua. Both firefighters were part of a multi-county response to what was initially reported as a single-family home fire with possible entrapment. Zachary Paris, who served as assistant fire chief for the New Tripoli Fire Company in Lehigh County, had recently joined the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Service in February 2022. He graduated in September and is survived by his wife and two young daughters. Marvin Gruber, assistant chief of the Northampton Community College Department of Public Safety, was also part of the rescue effort. During the operation, multiple mayday calls were made as firefighters were trapped inside the burning structure. The Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) rushed in to save them, but both men were later pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Miners Hospital. A third person was found on the property behind the home, but authorities have not yet confirmed how that individual died or identified them. Trooper David Beohm of the Pennsylvania State Police stated that the body was located on the property, and the case remains under investigation. Two residents were living in the home, but they are no longer there. Authorities have not released details about their condition. The fire, which was classified as a three-alarm blaze, drew crews from three different counties. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
