Scott Peterson was on scene at the 4th Alarm fire in Newport Township on Monday in Wadsworth, and has shared a series of powerful images that will be featured across multiple posts.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, the Newport Fire Department received reports of a fire at 14541 Juniper Court. Upon arrival, crews found a heavy volume of fire coming from both the roof and interior of the home. The Zion Fire Department’s ladder truck quickly arrived and was set up for water tower operations. Initially, only one portable tank was available, with most of the water being directed to the Zion truck. As the situation escalated, the alarm was quickly upgraded from a second alarm to a fourth alarm, bringing in numerous engines and tenders from MABAS Divisions 4 and 101 (Kenosha County, WI). It appears that Twin Lakes Fire Department was the farthest department to respond. Eventually, three portable tanks were set up in series, allowing for a continuous and effective water flow without any loss. Despite the intense fire conditions upon arrival, the crews did an excellent job in controlling the blaze. One photo clearly shows the collapse of a large section of the second floor through the C division window above the back deck.
