On May 18, 2015, around 1:00 PM, the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (FPD) responded to a residential fire at 2 Windridge Road in South Barrington. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered parts of the cedar shake roof on fire and immediately requested a MABAS Box Alarm. Due to strong winds, the alarm was escalated to a second alarm, and then to a third as units were pulled back for an exterior attack. Firefighters deployed several hand lines, with some using foam to combat the flames. After a section of the roof burned away, crews re-entered the home to search for hot spots and fully extinguish the remaining fire. A significant smoldering fire pit was also found in the backyard, located upwind of the structure, raising concerns about potential spread. Multiple fire departments from across the region responded to the incident. The scene included two engines and two tenders from Barrington Countryside, along with engines from Barrington, Lake Zurich, Algonquin, Fox River Grove, Hanover Park, West Dundee, Schaumburg, and Carpentersville. Ladder trucks arrived from Hoffman Estates, McHenry Twp, Countryside, and Palatine, while squads from Libertyville and Cary provided additional support. Ambulances from Buffalo Grove and Long Grove were on standby, and numerous tenders from areas such as Long Grove, McHenry Twp, Nunda Rural, Crystal Lake, Prospect Heights, Palatine Rural, East Dundee, Bartlett, Wauconda, and Rutland-Dundee were also present. Additional resources included MABAS Air 5 and the MESS Canteen. Numerous personnel and equipment were mobilized, reflecting the scale of the response. The fire was eventually brought under control, though the structure suffered considerable damage. Several photographers captured the event, including Larry Shapiro and Steve Redick, who documented the efforts of firefighters, the use of foam, and the large number of emergency vehicles on scene.
