On Sunday night, January 5, 2020, firefighters from Buffalo Grove were dispatched to Dengeos Restaurant located at 195 W. Dundee Road after reports of a fire. Upon arrival, police officers observed smoke drifting across the street from the building. Firefighters spotted flames visible through the trim on the C-D corner of the structure, with heavy smoke coming from inside. The alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 to bring in additional resources. Firefighters worked quickly to ventilate the roof and remove sections of the siding, revealing significant charring along the building's corner. The scene involved multiple units from Buffalo Grove, including Quint 25, Engine 26, Engine 27, Ambulances 25 and 26, Battalion 4, Car 208, and the deputy chief. Additional crews from surrounding areas also responded, including teams from Arlington Heights, Long Grove, Palatine, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Prospect Heights, Lake Forest, and Nunda Rural. Photographs captured the intense efforts of the firefighters, showing them using saws to cut through the roof and siding. One image even highlighted a discarded cigarette that had nearly caused the fire. These photos, taken by Larry Shapiro, provide a powerful visual record of the emergency response and the damage sustained. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of quick action and the dedication of first responders in protecting lives and property.
