The Alsip Fire Department has recently received a 2012 Seagrave Marauder II pumper truck. Once training and equipment installation are complete, Engine 2063 will be deployed at Station 1 on Pulaski, while Engine 2023 will be placed in reserve at Station 2. The older 1986 Spartan/Grumman/TeleSqurt engine (Engine 2053) is set to be decommissioned and will soon find a new purpose in Ecuador. With this acquisition, Alsip now operates three Seagrave engines and one Seagrave ladder truck, making them one of the few departments in the region with an entirely Seagrave fleet. This is the first Seagrave engine acquired by Alsip that features roll-up doors and a 2,000-GPM pump. The new unit also includes a painted steel bumper with chevron striping, a zolatone pump panel instead of traditional brushed stainless steel, and the first use of shorter “barrier-style” doors in the department’s history. A comparison between the new 2012 Seagrave Marauder II and the older 2007 Marauder I model shows some key differences. While both were built by Seagrave, the newer engine boasts a more powerful 2,000-GPM pump compared to the 1,500-GPM system on the older unit. This upgrade reflects the department’s commitment to modernization and improved firefighting capabilities. One notable feature of the new engine is the updated pump panel, which clearly labels the capacities of water and foam tanks. This addition is a welcome touch for fire apparatus enthusiasts and historians, offering valuable insight into the vehicle’s specifications. With these updates, the Alsip Fire Department continues to enhance its response capabilities while maintaining a strong connection to its legacy. The arrival of the new engine marks an important milestone in the department’s ongoing evolution.
