Excerpts from FirehouseSubs.com: In 2005, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was established with a clear mission: to support emergency personnel and public safety organizations by providing funding, essential life-saving equipment, and educational resources. Many of these professionals work with outdated tools or lack access to critical supplies, but the Foundation has made a real difference. To date, it has distributed over $13 million in aid across 43 states and Puerto Rico, helping more than 1,000 public safety groups nationwide. In Illinois alone, over $417,000 has been donated since 2012, with most of the equipment provided being otherwise unattainable for these organizations. Continuing its commitment to supporting local heroes, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently awarded $190,000 worth of vital equipment to nine Chicago-based public safety organizations during a special press event held on May 19, 2015, at the Robert J. Quinn Fire Academy. The following departments received much-needed support: • The Chicago Fire Department received two off-road ambulance vehicles valued at over $55,800. • The Chicago Police Department’s 17th District was given two automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), each worth more than $1,000. • The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation received 41 bulletproof vests totaling over $20,000. • The Mokena Fire Protection District was awarded an all-terrain vehicle worth more than $16,700. • The Waukegan Fire Protection District received eight sets of firefighting turnout gear, valued at over $19,600. • The Lemont Fire Protection District got an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) worth more than $19,800. • The Frankfort Fire Protection District received an ATV valued at over $14,600. • The Tri-State Fire Protection District was given a water rescue boat, worth more than $19,900. • The Mount Prospect Fire Department received 27 AEDs, totaling over $21,000 in value. To fund these important donations, Firehouse Subs restaurants engage in various community-driven fundraising initiatives. From selling recycled pickle buckets for $2 to collecting spare change through donation canisters, every effort helps. Additionally, the Round Up Program allows customers to round up their bill to the nearest dollar. These combined efforts make it possible for the Foundation to continue its vital work in supporting first responders across the country.
