Excerpts from JournalStandard.com: Stockton Fire Chief Randy Baysinger expressed confidence in his department's ability to handle emergencies, even after a fire severely damaged their station on Thursday. Despite the destruction, Baysinger emphasized that the team is still fully operational and ready to serve the community. The early morning blaze caused significant damage to the firehouse, including six fire trucks, a trailer, and an ATV. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and officials are assessing whether the equipment can be repaired or must be replaced. However, Baysinger said the department has already received critical support from neighboring communities. "Within two hours of the fire, we had emergency equipment from other areas," Baysinger shared. "We want Stockton residents to know we're still here. We may be damaged, but thanks to our neighbors, we have what we need to keep them safe and respond when they need us most." Local fire departments, including German Valley, Shannon, and Scales Mound, have loaned eight spare vehicles and equipment to the volunteer-based department. These resources are currently stored in a nearby building. Additional gear was also donated by departments in Davis, Lena, Mount Morris, Pearl City, and Polo. Baysinger noted that he has already received offers of assistance from over 50 fire departments across the Midwest. "In emergency services, you don’t often hear 'thank you,' but this situation shows how wrong that assumption is," he said. "People are reaching out from over 100 miles away to help. It really means a lot to me and my team." Community support has continued to grow. On the day of the fire, Rick Barkau, dealer principal at Barkau Automotive, presented Baysinger with a check. In March, his dealership will donate $100 to the Stockton Fire Department for every car sold. Chrysler will match that amount for every Chrysler vehicle sold. "What really touched me was seeing the firefighters' dedication," Barkau said. "They’re all volunteers, risking their lives for our community. I hope to give them a $7,500 check next month. I felt terrible after seeing the fire, and I wanted to do something meaningful." The Warren Fire Department is also contributing. They held a steak fry on Saturday, which was so popular that they had to purchase more steaks. Over 325 were served, and Chief Jeff Ege is still counting the donations raised that night to send to Stockton.
