Excerpts from FirehouseSubs.com:

In 2005, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was established with a clear mission: to support emergency personnel and public safety organizations by providing funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities. Many of these first responders work with outdated tools or lack access to essential resources. However, the Foundation has made a real difference, having distributed over $13 million in aid across 43 states and Puerto Rico. This support has helped more than 1,000 public safety organizations nationwide.

Illinois has been one of the key beneficiaries, with over $417,000 donated since 2012. In most cases, the equipment provided would have otherwise been unattainable for these departments due to budget constraints.

On May 19, 2015, during a special press conference at the Robert J. Quinn Fire Academy, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation announced its latest round of support, awarding $190,000 worth of critical equipment to nine Chicago-based public safety organizations.

The following agencies were among the recipients:

  • Chicago Fire Department: Received two off-road ambulance vehicles valued at over $55,800.
  • Chicago Police Department 17th District: Received two automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) totaling more than $2,000.
  • Chicago Police Memorial Foundation: Received 41 bulletproof vests, valued at over $20,000.
  • Mokena Fire Protection District: Received an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) worth more than $16,700.
  • Waukegan Fire Protection District: Received eight sets of firefighting turnout gear, totaling over $19,600.
  • Lemont Fire Protection District: Received an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) valued at more than $19,800.
  • Frankfort Fire Protection District: Received an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) worth over $14,600.
  • Tri-State Fire Protection District: Received a water rescue boat valued at more than $19,900.
  • Mount Prospect Fire Department: Received 27 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), totaling over $21,000.

The Foundation’s efforts are made possible through the generosity of Firehouse Subs restaurants and their customers. Each location participates in various fundraising initiatives, such as selling recycled pickle buckets for $2, collecting spare change in donation canisters, and offering the "Round Up" program, where guests can round up their bill to the nearest dollar. These contributions help ensure that local heroes have the tools they need to protect and serve their communities.

Thanks, Jay
