From Michael Douglass, Lieutenant / Public Education & Information Officer, Cary Fire Protection District

We recently received a new fire tender, number 270, which we’re excited to feature on the Chicago Area Fire website. This unit is based out of Station #2 and comes equipped with a Kenworth T370 chassis, a 3,000-gallon water tank, and a 500-gallon-per-minute pump. One of the standout features is the rear-facing camera system, which helps the driver monitor what’s behind the vehicle for safer maneuvering.

Another key upgrade is the single 3,000-gallon port-a-tank, allowing us to quickly dump all the water and get back on the road without the hassle of setting up and connecting multiple tanks. Previously, we had two 2,100-gallon tanks that required individual setup before they could be emptied. This new configuration not only saves time but also reduces the overall length of the unit by about four feet.

The supply hose is now arranged differently, and the pump panel is located behind a roll-up door in the body. The tender arrived in mid-August and was officially put into service on August 30th. It's already proving to be a valuable addition to our fleet.
