Here’s a message from Michael Douglass, Lieutenant and Public Education & Information Officer with the Cary Fire Protection District: We recently received our new fire tender, number 270, which we’re excited to showcase on the Chicago Area Fire website. Based out of Station #2, this unit is built on a Kenworth T370 chassis and features a 3,000-gallon water tank along with a 500-gallon-per-minute pump. One of the standout features is the rear-facing camera system, allowing the driver to monitor what's directly behind the vehicle for improved safety during maneuvers. Another key upgrade is the inclusion of a single 3,000-gallon port-a-tank, which enables us to quickly empty the entire tank without having to set up and connect multiple tanks like we did before. This streamlines our response time significantly. The new configuration also includes a different layout for the supply hose, with the pump panel located behind a roll-up door inside the body. As a result, the new tender is about four feet shorter than its predecessor, making it more maneuverable in tight spaces. The tender arrived in mid-August and officially went into service on August 30th. We're already seeing the benefits of this modernized equipment, and it's great to have such an updated tool for our community.  Cary Tender 270. Michael Douglass photo The rear of the new tender.
