Xiao Bian: On October 14 this year, the Ministry of Science and Technology formally approved Weichai’s State Key Laboratory of Reliability of Internal Combustion Engines. What do you think is the significance of the development of the laboratory in the development of the industry? Why does the state concentrate its resources on reliable R&D?

Qi Dehui: Weichai has been deeply cultivating the internal combustion engine industry for nearly 70 years and has a deep understanding of the reliability of internal combustion engines. Over the past decades, we have always positioned Weichai products' differentiated advantages in terms of reliability, and spent 7 years reporting countries. Main lab.

During the application process, experts in the industry also suggested that: What kind of advanced technology is reliability? It is better to declare new energy-saving technologies, materials, and the like. However, we still insist on reliability because when we benchmark against the international industry, we found that the reliability of the internal combustion engine is the biggest gap between China and the world's advanced level. Taking the B10 life of a vehicle diesel engine as an example, the US diesel engine is basically 1.5 million kilometers, the European diesel engine is 1.2 million kilometers, and China's diesel engine averages only 800,000 kilometers.

The low reliability is not only an example of the Chinese auto industry, but it is a common problem of the entire “Made in China”. We can build manned rockets, but go crazy for Japan's toilet seats; our wholesale market is filled with countless small commodities, but no Swiss brand like this. How many advanced technologies can a small knife have? The key is quality, which is reliability.

The low-cost, low-cost haze has long influenced Chinese companies to enter the international high-end market. To achieve a “quality power”, it is by no means an intriguing innovation. It is even more urgent to carry out basic and comprehensive research in a down-to-earth manner. Reliability is the key to resolving the pain of lock-throat development in China's internal combustion engines.

Weichai has successfully applied for the National Key Laboratory. With the support of the government, it collaborates with all parties' superior resources to jointly carry out research on the reliability of internal combustion engines and share the results of scientific research. Xiao Bian: Does raising the reliability of the internal combustion engine only mean that the life of the internal combustion engine is extended? Is there an impact or correlation on other performance improvements?

Yu Dehui: Reliability research is not simply to extend the life of the engine. Sometimes the customer's demand for internal combustion engines is not long life but short life. Recently, a US customer came to us and wanted to make a 250-hour life diesel engine and assemble it on a fire engine. Fire trucks have a low frequency of use and may not be in contact with fire for several years. Customers need to ensure that the engine can operate with high quality at all times and in a short period of time, and can stand idle for a long time.

Therefore, in the future, we must not only have durable "marathon runners" but also powerful "sprinters". The reliability research that we carry out is based on the basic premise of satisfying the individual needs of our customers. In the custom-made lifespan, we improve attendance quality and reduce failures.

Of course, in view of the current status of the Chinese auto industry, especially commercial vehicles, the durability is still the most extensive demand of customers. Our reliability research will focus on the service life of the internal combustion engine.

At the same time, the improvement of reliability is still the basis and premise of the energy-saving, emission-reducing and light-duty combustion engine. The combustion level of the internal combustion engine determines its energy consumption and emission levels. To improve the combustion efficiency, the mechanical load and the heat load must increase. This requires the explosion pressure in the cylinder to continue to expand. The high burst pressure imposes higher requirements on the reliability of the internal combustion engine. Therefore, to apply energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies to products and to apply lightweight materials, reliability must be ensured first.

This is why the State Key Laboratory of Reliability of Internal Combustion Engines is the main reason for being anchored in the “new energy and low-energy vehicles” major research category. In other words, there is no guarantee of reliability. The so-called new energy-saving technologies and lightweight new materials are difficult to use.

Xiao Bian: In the automotive industry, most of the units that have state key laboratories are universities. As a company, Weichai's internal combustion engine reliability laboratory was selected as a national key laboratory. What is the positive significance for Weichai? Based on this powerful resource, what are the research plans for Weichai in the future?

Qi Dehui: The construction of the State Key Laboratory of Reliability of Internal Combustion Engines can not only promote the overall technological progress of China's internal combustion engines and related supporting industries. For Weichai, with this resource platform, our reliability research can be more standardized and in-depth. There are even more opportunities to participate in national and even international projects.

For example, the recent visit of General Secretary Xi Jinping to the United States has formed a series of scientific research cooperation projects, one of which is the “low-energy car research”. Because of the platform of the State Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine Reliability, the Ministry of Science and Technology invites Weichai to participate. We can have close contact with the world's most cutting-edge technologies, which is very helpful for the improvement of our own level.

The laboratory is affiliated with Weichai, and Weichai coordinates the resources of the entire society for research. The sharing of scientific research results is a process of mutual benefit. In the future, Weichai will honor its commitment to invest 400 million yuan to complete related facilities within two years; open 20 research projects, fund at least 10 scientific research teams; host more than 2 international conferences; apply for more than 5 national and industry standards, More than 50 patents...
