On January 8, 2010, Cummins China’s new leadership team, the world’s largest independent engine manufacturer, officially unveiled in Beijing and described Cummins ’ strategic development blueprint for the future in China. Cummins said that its global executives directly take over China's business, will accelerate the speed of decision-making; for the Chinese market to strengthen product customization, improve service quality, and further strengthen the cooperative partnership to support China's sustainable development.

As the world's largest independent engine manufacturer, Cummins has the broadest range of diesel and natural gas engine products in the industry, with a displacement range of 1.4 to 91 litres and a power range of 31 to 3,500 hp. It is widely used in trucks, buses, RVs, and light-duty trucks. Road vehicles such as commercial vehicles and pick-up trucks.

According to statistics from relevant agencies, China has become Cummins ’ second largest national market except the United States. Cummins ’s strategic position in the Chinese market has become increasingly prominent. In order to further promote the development of business in China and strengthen Cummins’s strategic decision-making capabilities in China, Cummins Steve Chapman, a global executive and current vice president of the Cummins Group, will be directly responsible for business development in China. He will work with Cummings (China) Investment Co., Ltd. Vice Chairman Liu Xiaoxing and Wang Hongjie to bring Cummins' business in China to a new height.

According to reports, Cummins invested more than US$310 million in China. Over the past few years, it has jointly established a new engine production base with China’s outstanding automotive companies. To date, four engine joint venture plants have been established with leading companies in China's commercial vehicles, including Dongfeng Motor, Shaanxi Automobile Group and Beiqi Foton, and 11 of the 18 engine series have been locally produced in China. According to the plan, Foton Cummins can produce 400,000 units a year. Cummins has settled in China from light to medium-sized heavy-duty engine product lines.

In addition to the engine products, the key subsystems of the Cummins engine have all been locally produced in China. In addition to the Cummins turbocharged technology system and the Cummins Filtration System, which have taken root in China for more than ten years, since 2008, Cummins Fuel Systems and Cummins Emissions Processing Systems have successively established Chinese production bases. As China implements increasingly stringent emission regulations, key component suppliers such as Cummins emission treatment systems will play a vital role in helping engine products reach emission escalation.

In order to better serve a diverse customer base, Cummins will adjust its positioning in the Chinese market in an orderly manner, extending from the high end to the mainstream market, and more effectively support domestic and international market strategies for Chinese OEM customers.

Efforts will be made to strengthen the construction of after-sales service network, further coordinate the overall service network resources in China, strengthen the cooperation with the host plant after-sales network, and create a first-class service platform based on customer orientation.

Cummins will continue to fully support the export strategy of Chinese OEMs. With Cummins' leading environmental protection technology, it helps Chinese customers to break the environmental barriers in the international market, and to support the development of Chinese OEM products in overseas markets with a global after-sales service system.
