According to Thailand’s “World News” report recently, due to the impact of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Thailand’s exports of packaging and printing paper to Japan have slowed down, with initial losses estimated at 30 billion baht.

It is reported that the Japanese paper printing industry was severely affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Dainippon Printing Group suffered from various degrees of damage in the printing factories in Miyagi Prefecture, Fukushima Prefecture, and Iwate Prefecture. At the same time, due to the impact of Japan's post-disaster power cuts and difficulties in the transport of raw materials, Japan's papermaking and printing industry experienced a decline in production capacity, which led to a slowdown in demand for packaging and printing paper in Thailand.

Angay, chairman of the Thai Packaging and Printing Industry Association, revealed that Thailand's orders for packaging and printing papers have generally been postponed for 3 to 6 months, which is estimated to cause an economic loss of 3 billion baht. However, considering that Japan's consumption of packaging and printing paper will increase during the post-disaster reconstruction period, it is expected that short-term losses will have little impact on the growth of the packaging and printing industry in Thailand.

The estimated growth rate of the Thai packaging and printing industry in 2011 was 10-15%, equivalent to 300 billion baht.
