This report comes from Eric Haak: Early Sunday morning, a fire broke out in an occupied apartment building located at 2715 E. 75th Place. Shortly before 0500 hours, Engine 126 and Truck 49 responded to the scene and reported flames coming from the second floor of the 25X75, a two-story ordinary building. The structure consisted of two attached, side-by-side two-flats, with the fire initially contained to the eastern unit. By 0511, the 23rd Battalion upgraded the alarm to Still & Box as the fire spread through a void in the drop ceiling and began threatening both units. Initially, crews were pulled from the building, but they made a second attempt to prevent the fire from taking over the entire structure. However, by 0530, the situation had worsened, and companies shifted to a defensive posture due to limited progress on the interior attack. Engine 126 and Truck 49 were then withdrawn from the front of the building, and Squad 5's snorkel was brought in as flames eventually spread throughout the cockloft of both units. The fire was fully involved by approximately 0640.
