Since the first delivery of eCanter in the US last year, Daimler has started the delivery of the German market. Now, Daimler Group said that as of this week, many customers have already received eCanter electric trucks.
As a public test project for the Daimler Group electric trucks, the number of the first nine eCanter electric trucks in the UK was “allocated†to the courier service provider DPD, the logistics company Wincanton and the bakery food manufacturer Hovis. These companies operate a large fleet of transport vehicles, and if the Daimler Group's tests prove successful, then these companies can quickly electrify their fleet. It is understood that eCanter is expected to be mass-produced in 2020. After mass production, urban transportation and short-distance transportation in the UK market are expected to be further cleaned.
It is understood that Fusang eCanter is an electric truck specially designed for urban short-distance transportation. Its cruising range is only 100 kilometers. According to the structure of the cargo and the way of use, the maximum load can reach 3.5 tons. The truck is powered by six high-voltage lithium-ion battery packs, each with a voltage of 420 volts and a battery capacity of 13.8 kWh, so the total truck battery capacity is 83 kWh.
In the next few years, the Daimler Group's electric truck test project will include 500 trucks. Before the mass production of the truck, Daimler Group will also deliver small batches of eCanter trucks to customers as it is now.
Currently, the Daimler Group is promoting a number of truck projects. In addition to the e-Canter electric truck, last month, Daimler also released a beta e-Actros heavy-duty truck and delivered 10 eActros to customers for testing. The eActros has a maximum load of 26 tons. In pure electric mode, the maximum cruising range is up to 200 kilometers (about 124 miles). The car is expected to be fully operational from 2021. Although e-Truck is inferior to Tesla Semi in terms of cruising range, e-Truck's positioning is still a higher-load short-distance transportation.
