**From Deputy Chief Drew Smith:**
> Hey folks,
I just came across these pages from an old Prospect Heights logbook. A lot of departments still keep handwritten records, but for some reason, this practice stopped here by 1981. The first entry about a working fire was made by Captain Ron Olsen, who eventually got promoted to Deputy Chief. He retired from that position and now works part-time as a fire inspector for the PHFD.
Chief Olsen also made the second entry. There are more notes from Lieutenant Warren Lippert and Captain Norm Bittner. Interestingly, it looks like around November 1, 1971, the PHFD started using the Code 1, 2, 3, 4 system, which is widely used in many Other fire departments. I think this system originally came from the Elk Grove Village FD. By the way, Lt. Lippert's son, Dean Lippert, is a retired firefighter from Arlington Heights.

These images show the handwritten entries. As you can see, they’re a bit faded but still legible. Each page has different details about calls, responses, and shifts. It’s fascinating to see how things were documented back then.
Take a look at the images—each one tells its own story. These logs remind me why we do what we do, keeping our community safe.
**Best regards,**
Deputy Chief Drew Smith
