Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:

At approximately 9:45 a.m., a serious fire broke out in the basement of a home located on the 1100 block of Florence Avenue in Evanston. The flames quickly spread to upper floors, causing significant damage. The first floor partially collapsed, trapping two firefighters and triggering a mayday call.

The two firefighters were successfully rescued and transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. While no fatalities were reported, a cat was unfortunately lost in the blaze. All three residents of the house were displaced and are currently seeking temporary shelter.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. Emergency crews from Evanston Fire Department and neighboring areas responded swiftly to the scene. The incident has drawn attention from local media and residents, who are closely following updates as the investigation continues.
