This is from Eric Haak:

At 4:20 PM on Tuesday afternoon, companies from Chicago’s 18th Battalion responded to a fire report at a building located at the corner of 73rd and Yale. Upon arrival, Truck 20 reported that it was a four-story, 75 x 100-foot "Red X" apartment building with the top floor fully involved in flames. Within minutes, the fire was contained, and all units transitioned to a defensive strategy.

Aerial operations were launched with the following units: Engine 122 was stationed on Yale just north of the intersection and supplied water to Truck 20. Engine 47 was positioned on Yale to the south of the fire building and supported Squad 5 in Sector 1. Tower Ladder 34 was set up on 73rd Street at the corner of Sector 1/4, while Engine 73 secured a hydrant about half a block north on Yale to provide support.

There are a few unique aspects to this incident. First, this address falls within Engine 54’s regular district, but they never responded. At 4:00 PM, Engine 54 was dispatched for an ambulance assist that resulted in a DOA (Dead on Arrival). It took over 30 minutes for a beat car to arrive and relieve them. Another thing worth noting is that Truck 20 is using a spare unit, but it still has the magnetic numerals on the doors. As far as I know, Truck 20 is the only one in the department that uses these. I noticed them a few months back and thought it was a cool touch.

Eric Haak captured some great photos from the scene, showing the fire and the responding units. These images give a real sense of the intensity and coordination during the operation.
