On behalf of the National Development and Reform Commission, the China National Machinery Industry Federation recently held the China National Large-Scale Blast Furnace Blower Localization Technical Demonstration Conference in Beijing. The event brought together experts from Sinopec, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, research institutions, and Shaanxi Blower (Group) Co., Ltd. A key focus was on the full demonstration of the localization technology program for a 4000m³ blast furnace blower. The experts confirmed that China now possesses the capability to design and manufacture large-scale blowers ranging from 4000 to 5800m³, marking a major breakthrough in domestic production of such critical equipment. The blast furnace blower is a crucial component in the power supply system of a blast furnace used in ironmaking. Large blast furnace blower groups are essential for furnaces with a capacity of 4000m³ or more. These systems typically have an airflow range of 7,000 to 10,000 Nm³/min and require drive power between 30,000 to 60,000 kW. They consist of the blower itself, along with automatic control systems, electronic control systems, and drivers. Globally, there are currently 20 large blast furnaces with capacities ranging from 4,000 to 5,500 m³, four of which are located in China. However, the large blast furnace blowers used in these facilities are still imported from abroad. With the rapid development of the metallurgical industry in China, over 10 more large blast furnaces of similar scale are either under construction or planned, creating a growing demand for localized solutions. Shaanxi Blower Group is the only company in China capable of designing and manufacturing large-scale blast furnace blowers. To date, it has successfully produced more than 20 units with an airflow of 7,000 Nm³/min or higher, covering all the necessary air volume and pressure requirements for 4,000 to 5,500 m³ blast furnaces. At the demonstration conference, the expert panel highly praised the company's production capabilities, quality assurance systems, and after-sales services. They also recommended that relevant government departments strengthen coordination and guidance in the localization process, while offering preferential policies to both manufacturers and users involved in the trial production and application of the first domestically-made large-scale equipment. This move is expected to further accelerate the adoption of homegrown technology in this vital sector.
