China FAW Group Co., Ltd. held the closing ceremony of the South African Koha factory and the first heavy truck off the assembly line in Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa on the 10th, including the South African President Jacob Zuma and several South African dignitaries. Hundreds of Chinese and foreign guests attended the event.

FAW's South Africa plant is located in the Koha Economic Development Zone in Mandela Bay, South Africa's first economic development zone. It invested 60 million US dollars in the first phase, and FAW has thus become the first Chinese manufacturing company to complete the production and sales of localized industrial chains in Africa. The factory has an annual output of 5,000 heavy-duty trucks. The market radiates nearly 10 countries in southern and eastern Africa.

Zuma said in his speech that one of the top priorities of the South African government at this stage is to promote economic development and to promote sustainable economic growth in South Africa by working with reliable business partners and by vigorously creating a favorable environment for private companies to develop.

He said: "China FAW's project can make a key contribution to helping South Africa achieve its goal of achieving a GNP growth of 2019 by 5%. This project will not only create much-needed jobs for South Africa, improve people's lives, but also enhance South Africa. The status in the global auto manufacturing industry has helped South Africa's industrialization process and proved that South Africa's investment environment can attract world-class large-scale enterprises. Therefore, it has a landmark significance."

Zuma said that FAW's South Africa project is also a full expression of South Africa's practical cooperation through the strategic platform of the BRICS countries and benefiting both parties.

Masurian, the governor of the Eastern Cape of South Africa, said that although the new South Africa has made great progress in national development over the past 20 years, it still faces problems such as poverty, unemployment and inequality. The only way to solve the problem is to accelerate industrialization and increase investment in pillar industries.

The mayor of Mandela City, Fila, said that FAW South Africa's 20 years of entry into South Africa and the new South Africa have been in tune with the development history for 20 years. Cooperation between China and South Africa in this project is a concrete manifestation of the healthy development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and South Africa.

Tian Xuejun, the Chinese ambassador to South Africa, said that under the BRICS framework, China and South Africa have always given each other firm and valuable support. The completion of the FAW Koha Assembling Plant and the commencement of the construction of the FAW KOHA assembly plant is a microcosm of the deepening cooperation between China and South Africa, and is also a Chinese company in South Africa. Another milestone in the continuous progress of business development.

China FAW entered South Africa in 1994. In 2012, it cooperated with the China-Africa Development Fund to build an auto assembly plant in Mandela Bay, South Africa, and completed the construction of all its factories in April this year. The project will create more than 1,000 jobs for the local people.
