The project “Research on the treatment technology of MDI waste brine used as raw material for ion-exchange membrane caustic soda” undertaken by Yantai Wanhua Group passed the appraisal of the organization organized by Shandong Science and Technology Department in mid-June.


It is understood that Yantai Wanhua Group needs to use caustic soda and hydrochloric acid for neutralization in the production of diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI). The waste brine produced in the past has been treated to meet the standard and discharged to the sea. On the one hand, a large amount of industrial salt and industrial pure water are lost in vain; on the other hand, it is necessary to use the purchased raw salt as a raw material for caustic soda production. Due to the complexity of the water quality of MDI waste brine, if it is to be processed to meet the requirements of ion-exchange membrane caustic soda production, it is technically difficult, and domestic and foreign companies have not implemented relevant projects.

Yantai Wanhua Group adopts the MDI waste brine treated by this technology to meet the requirements of the control index for the use of brine in the production of ion-exchange membrane caustic soda. The technology is reliable and safe to use, and can be applied to industrial production. The successful development of this technology has basically solved the problem of waste brine treatment that plagues MDI manufacturers.
