**SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – (BUSINESS WIRE)** – Today, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) announced that starting February 1, 2016, new commercial licenses for most standalone desktop software products will only be available through Desktop Subscription. This move marks another step in Autodesk's ongoing shift toward subscription-based offerings, providing customers with a simpler way to manage and deploy their software while enabling quicker adoption of advanced tools and technologies. Subscription models also reduce upfront costs and allow users to pay incrementally based on usage.
"Design and manufacturing processes are evolving rapidly, and so too is the way software is delivered," said Andrew Anagnost, Senior Vice President of Industry Strategy & Marketing at Autodesk. "By embracing subscription-based services, we’re offering our customers greater flexibility, better value, and a smoother user experience. This change aligns with what our clients have been asking for—a more adaptable solution that integrates seamlessly with their workflows."
Autodesk Desktop Subscription provides several advantages, including simplified installation and upgrades, flexible payment plans, and enhanced access across multiple devices. The company aims to continuously enhance these offerings by integrating them more deeply with cloud services, ensuring compatibility between different versions, and reducing potential file format issues.
Existing customers who purchased perpetual licenses before February 1, 2016, can still use those licenses, and those on Maintenance Subscription will continue receiving associated benefits for as long as their subscription remains active. Additionally, Cloud Services Subscriptions will remain available.
"Today’s announcement gives our clients ample time to prepare for these changes," added Anagnost. "We're committed to working closely with both our customers and partners to ensure a seamless transition. Transparency has always been key for us, and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way."
