SAN RAFAEL, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Today, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), announced a significant shift in its product distribution strategy. Starting February 1, 2016, new commercial licenses for most standalone desktop software products will be available exclusively through Desktop Subscription. This move marks another step in Autodesk's ongoing transition to subscription-based offerings, providing customers with a more streamlined experience while reducing upfront costs and allowing for more flexible payment options.
According to Andrew Anagnost, Autodesk's Senior Vice President of Industry Strategy & Marketing, "The way the world designs and builds is evolving, and so too is the way software is delivered. Companies embracing these changes will lead their industries into a more agile, interconnected future. Our customers have been asking for greater flexibility and value, and the subscription model enables us to meet those needs while enhancing the overall user experience."
The new Desktop Subscription model simplifies installation, upgrades, and management, offering users enhanced flexibility and broader access rights across multiple devices. Additionally, Autodesk plans to continuously refine its Desktop Subscription products to ensure seamless integration with its cloud services, minimizing compatibility issues and improving overall performance.
Existing customers who purchased perpetual licenses before February 1, 2016, can continue using their current licenses. Similarly, those enrolled in Maintenance Subscription programs will retain their benefits as long as their subscriptions remain active. Cloud Service Subscriptions will also continue to be offered.
