This is from Larry Shapiro:

On the afternoon of March 18, 2015, around 2:40 PM, Long Grove Fire Protection District units, along with mutual aid companies from Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, and Arlington Heights, responded to a tractor-trailer rollover on the northbound I-53 off-ramp to eastbound Lake Cook Road. The incident involved possible entrapment of two occupants inside the overturned truck.

Buffalo Grove Tower 25 was the first unit to arrive on scene and confirmed that two people were trapped inside the vehicle, which had flipped onto its roof. They immediately requested a second ambulance and a heavy wrecker equipped with airbags to assist in the rescue operation.

The rescue involved two separate extrication efforts. While Long Grove firefighters worked to free the passenger, Buffalo Grove and Prospect Heights crews focused on the driver. There was some discussion about calling in a helicopter due to the expected time it would take to extract both individuals, but it ultimately wasn’t needed. The passenger was successfully freed first, followed shortly by the driver.

Arlington Heights Ambulance 4 and Long Grove Ambulance 55 transported the injured to Lutheran General Hospital and Condell Medical Center, respectively. Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 was called as a third backup unit but was released upon arrival since the situation was under control.

Here are a few images from the scene. You can view the full gallery at shapirophotography.net. I also plan to post a video of the extrication, along with additional photos and footage of the recovery performed by Hillside Towing.
