Russia and the United States develop new materials solar cells

Silicon-based solar cells have been in development since the mid-20th century, and there have been no revolutionary breakthroughs in solar power generation in these decades. Although silicon-based batteries are very popular, their technical defects are also obvious, such as energy consumption, high cost, fragile batteries, and heavy weight. And these problems will be solved because Russia and the United States jointly launched new materials.

An international research team composed of the Moscow Steel Alloy Institute and the University of Texas at Dallas has developed a manufacturing technology for perovskite solar cells.

Researchers have found that this new perovskite solar cell technology can increase solar conversion by 15%.

Compared with conventional silicon-based solar cells, perovskite-type thin film solar cells have lower cost than photoelectric conversion. Because the mixed perovskite material is made of common metal salts and organic compounds, the acquisition is simple and the process is not cumbersome. Currently, the price per square meter of perovskite solar panels does not exceed $100, while the most expensive silicon-based solar panels cost $300 per square meter. In the case of large-scale production, the price will differ by a factor of three.

And the battery is light and flexible. The perovskite material can be used not only on glass, but also on other materials and surfaces, such as applying it to a flexible substrate for curling. The battery can be used not only in daily use. It can also be applied to mobile electronic devices.

The researchers said that this perovskite solar panel will expand the scope of solar cells, and the benefits are much more obvious, and may replace silicon-based solar cells in the future.
