The unit is Gbps. The backplane bandwidth of a typical switch ranges from a few Gbps to hundreds of Gbps. The higher the backplane bandwidth of a switch, the stronger the ability to process data, but at the same time the higher the design cost.

Many people will confuse the backplane bandwidth with the switching capacity. In fact, the switching capacity is generally smaller than the backplane bandwidth. 2. Packet forwarding rate The packet forwarding rate of a switch indicates the size of the switch's ability to forward data packets. The unit is generally pps (packet per second). The packet forwarding rate of a typical switch varies from several tens of Kpps to several hundred Mpps. The packet forwarding rate refers to the number of millions of data packets (Mpps) that the switch can forward each second, that is, the number of data packets that the switch can forward simultaneously. The packet forwarding rate reflects the switching capabilities of the switch in packets.

An important indicator of the packet forwarding rate is the backplane bandwidth of the switch. The higher the backplane bandwidth of a switch, the stronger the ability to process data and the higher the packet forwarding rate.

The calculation method is: x0.1488Mpps for Fast ports, 1.488Mpps for Gigabit ports, and 14.88Mpps for 10G ports. Then add all the ports together. Or take the PS104PoE switch as an example to illustrate that there are four 100M power ports, and a 100M network port, the packet forwarding rate = 5x0.1488Mbps = 0.744Mpps.

3. Port Transmission Rate Port transmission speed refers to the data exchange speed of the switch port, which is also called the port bandwidth. At present, there are several types such as 10Mbps, 100Mbps, and 1000Mbps. In addition, there are 10GMbps switches. The port transmission speed must match that of the connected network device to exert the maximum performance of the port. For example, a 100Mbps device accesses a 1000Mbps switch port and can only work in 100Mbps mode.

Keep in mind that all PoE switch port speeds are self-adaptive. For example, the port rate is 10/100/1000 Mbps, indicating that the transmission rate can be 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1000 Mbps.

4, the number of ports The number of ports of the switch equipment is the most intuitive measure of the switch, usually this parameter is for fixed-port switches, the number of common standard fixed port switch ports 8,12,16,24,48, etc. Several kinds. Because the pass-through switch determines the forwarding direction based only on the destination address regardless of the overall size of the packet. Therefore, its delay is fixed, depending on the interpretation rate of the destination address in the first 6 bytes of the packet.

A switch that uses a store-and-forward technique must begin to forward data packets because it must receive complete packets. Therefore, its delay depends on the size of the data packet. If the data packet is large, the delay is large; if the data packet is small, the delay is small. The perceived delay in practical applications also comes from the loss time of the platform access, transcoding, and forwarding mechanisms.
