Zhang Erhong, secretary-general of the Strategic Alliance for Methanol Economic Development, said that sulfur-based emissions from alcohol-based fuels used in cooking appliances and boilers are almost zero, well below the emission limit of gas boilers of 50 mg/m3; when alcohol-based fuels are used on boilers, nitrogen Oxide emissions can be reduced to around 30 mg/m3, which is 4 to 12 times lower than existing natural gas NOx emissions. However, at present, the market standard for alcohol-based fuels is lacking, and the technology is diverse. Local policies are not yet clear. The future development of alcohol-based fuels has a long way to go.
