The Volkswagen DSG gearbox plant, fully owned by the public sector, is set to begin official production in 2009. This facility will manufacture advanced dual-clutch transmissions, which will be used in popular models such as the Magotan and Tiguan. The plant's strategic location in Dalian positions it to support Volkswagen's joint ventures with two major Chinese automakers, FAW Group and Shanghai Automotive. Dalian Mayor Xia Lideren recently confirmed that the project cost between 200 million and 300 million euros. Once operational, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 units, significantly boosting local manufacturing capabilities. The new DSG plant is situated opposite the VW FASCO TSI engine plant, reinforcing Volkswagen’s commitment to integrated powertrain development. According to a Volkswagen spokesperson, the completion of this facility marks a key milestone in the company’s long-term "powertrain strategy." As a leading player in China’s automotive industry, Volkswagen continues to introduce cutting-edge technologies into the Chinese market. By localizing the production of DSG gearboxes, the company aims to strengthen its presence and fulfill its long-term vision of being deeply rooted in China. This move not only supports environmental goals through more efficient powertrains but also enhances supply chain efficiency and economic collaboration within the region.
