At the invitation of the U.S. World Agricultural Center, the China National Association of Agricultural Machinery Industry Organization arranged a visit by several leading Chinese agricultural machinery companies and research institutes, including Shantuo Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Corporation, China Harvest Machinery Corporation, China Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural Mechanization Research Institute, Luoyang Zhongshou, Zhengzhou Zhonglian, and Changzhou Dongfeng. The delegation, led by Chairman Gao Yuan En, attended the World Agricultural Exposition in the United States and toured the headquarters of John Deere and its combine harvester factory. The event brought together major players from around the globe. The WorldAgExpo, which started in 1968, has grown into the world’s largest exhibition for agricultural and pastoral products, equipment, and services. In 2008, it took place in Tulare, California, drawing over 1,700 exhibitors from across the world. With an exhibition area exceeding 200,000 square meters, the fair featured more than 100,000 participants showcasing a wide range of agricultural technologies and machinery. Leading global manufacturers like John Deere, New Holland, Claas, AGCO, Case, and Kubota were present, introducing their latest models. Companies produced CD-ROMs to promote their products, while Deere hosted interactive quizzes and New Holland and Kubota displayed tractors with clear price tags. Some companies exhibited full ranges of tractors, from 20 to 530 horsepower, and Germany’s Krone showcased a green feed machine with over 960 horsepower and a cutting width of more than nine meters. A special demonstration area allowed attendees to test drive machines and experience their performance firsthand. Chinese companies such as Foton Lovol Heavy Industry, Changzhou Dongfeng Agricultural Machinery, and Shantuo Agricultural Machinery also participated, displaying tractors and mini-excavators. Their presence highlighted the rapid growth of China’s agricultural machinery industry. Local audiences showed great interest, asking for details and expressing willingness to purchase Chinese tractors due to their competitive pricing and improved design. However, the delegation noted that several challenges remain before Chinese tractors can successfully enter the U.S. market, including meeting U.S. emission standards, improving manufacturing quality, and developing better supporting equipment. Despite these challenges, the U.S. market for small and medium-sized tractors is large, and there is potential for Chinese products to gain a foothold. Industry experts believe that with continued improvements, Chinese tractors will eventually make a significant impact in the U.S. market. During the visit to Deere’s Combine Plant, the delegation was impressed by the company’s modular production system, advanced Laser Cutting and CNC bending machines, and fully automated coating lines. They also viewed Deere’s latest tractor and combine harvester models and engaged in discussions about future collaboration opportunities at the company’s headquarters. The trip was both informative and productive. Through site visits, technical exchanges, and meetings with U.S. counterparts, the delegation gained valuable insights into the current state of international agricultural machinery, the use of high-tech innovations, and the trends shaping the industry. They also learned about the U.S. market and the strategies of leading manufacturers. Many members of the delegation found the experience enriching, noting that it not only strengthened international cooperation but also provided a clearer understanding of how to improve their products and explore overseas opportunities.
