At the invitation of the U.S. World Agricultural Center, the China National Association of Agricultural Machinery Industry Organization arranged a study tour for several Chinese agricultural machinery companies and institutions, including Shantuo Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Corporation, China Harvest Machinery Corporation, China Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural Mechanization Research Institute, Luoyang Zhongshou, Zhengzhou Zhonglian, and Changzhou Dongfeng. Led by the association's chairman, Gao Yuan En, the delegation attended the World Agricultural Exposition in the U.S. and visited the headquarters of John Deere as well as its combine harvester factory. The WorldAgExpo, which started in 1968, has grown into one of the largest global exhibitions showcasing agricultural and pastoral products, equipment, and services. The 2008 event took place in Tulare, California, drawing over 1,700 exhibitors from around the world across more than 200,000 square meters of exhibition space. Companies such as John Deere, New Holland, Claas, AGCO, Case, and Kubota were present, introducing new models and demonstrating advanced technologies. Some firms even provided CD-ROMs of their products and offered interactive experiences, like live prize quizzes and tractor test drives. Chinese companies like Foton Lovol Heavy Industry, Changzhou Dongfeng Agricultural Machinery, and Shantuo Agricultural Machinery participated, showcasing tractors and mini-excavators. Their presence at the expo attracted considerable attention, with many local visitors expressing interest in the competitive pricing and improved design of Chinese agricultural equipment. However, the delegation noted that Chinese tractors still face challenges in meeting U.S. emission standards, improving manufacturing quality, and developing supporting machinery. Despite these hurdles, analysts believe that with further improvements, Chinese small and medium-sized tractors have strong potential to enter the U.S. market. During the visit to John Deere, the delegation was impressed by the company’s modular production system, advanced automation, and high-tech coating lines. They also had discussions with Deere officials about future collaboration opportunities. The trip proved to be both informative and valuable, offering insights into global agricultural machinery trends, technological advancements, and market conditions. Participants felt the experience helped them understand the gap between Chinese and international standards while opening new pathways for overseas market expansion.
