The plant, fully owned by Volkswagen, is set to officially start production in 2009. It will manufacture Volkswagen DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) units, which will be used in popular models such as the MAGOTAN and TIGUAN. This new facility marks a significant step in Volkswagen's strategy to bring advanced technology to the Chinese market. Located in Dalian, the plant is designed to supply its joint ventures with two major Chinese automakers: FAW Group and Shanghai Automotive. According to Dalian Mayor Xia Lideren, the project required an investment of approximately 200 to 300 million euros. Once operational, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 units, supporting both domestic and international demand. A Volkswagen spokesperson shared that the DSG transmission plant is situated opposite the VW FASCO TSI engine plant, highlighting the strategic integration of key powertrain components within the same area. The completion of this facility is a crucial element of Volkswagen’s broader “green powertrain strategy,” aimed at improving efficiency and reducing emissions across its vehicle lineup. As a leading player in China’s automotive industry, Volkswagen continues to introduce cutting-edge technologies to the local market. By focusing on the localization of DSG gearboxes, the company is not only enhancing its product offerings but also reinforcing its long-term commitment to China. This initiative aligns with Volkswagen’s vision of being deeply rooted in the Chinese market, supporting sustainable growth and technological advancement.
